Manufacturing Quality Engineer I

Location: Smithfield, RI

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

Job Purpose / Summary: We are seeking a Quality Engineer to oversee and enhance the quality of our operational processes and outputs. The primary responsibilities of this role include maintaining quality standards, developing quality control systems, and identifying corrective actions. The Quality Engineer will collaborate closely with Branch Managers and Supervisors at our upfit locations to implement quality measures effectively. This position requires regular travel to our facilities in NY, RI, NJ, PA, and MD.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, build upon, and comply with the company's quality assurance standards.
  • Develop and implement quality control systems.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance.
  • Collaborate with Branch Managers to develop and implement controls and improvements.
  • Document quality assurance activities with internal reporting and audits.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot product or production issues.
  • Develop corrective actions, solutions, and improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that contribute to the success of the position.

WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS:

  • Strong communication skills to discuss complex abstract issues, contracts, and specifications with vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, and moderate temperature variations.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent technical background in Quality or a related field.

Experience and Training:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a similar role.
  • ASQ certification preferred but not required.

Additional Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Competency in probability, statistical inference, trigonometry, algebra, and geometry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work alternates between an office and shop floor environment.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, fumes, loud noise, and fluctuating temperatures while on the shop floor.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job requires working both indoors and outdoors, depending on site needs.
  • Frequent travel to multiple upfit locations.
